Darrell just has to ride the new "Hairy Kay" (yes thats the offical name). No paint on the frame for the ride last night and this Sunday and then it will be stripped to be painted.

Dubwatch seems to be a hit and yesterday this Escalade with 26's was out front, the picture doesn't show the bling grill that well. I even got a text picture this morning of a dubwatch sighting but I think I will keep the dubwatch here for ones in front of the shop or if we are on a ride...never know

New bikes in stock including Harry Kay
Couple cool items in the shop the last couple of days. Yesterday we received a big parts order from Trek and Innova. Today we got a bike order from Trek with bikes we needed to refill sold bike along with a new EX 7, Fisher HiFi and the new Fisher ARC Super Road Bikes.
After we had put the bike boxes away and started building bikes the brown santa came by with a frame box containing Darrell's new Mountain Goat and a stock WTR. Now we just need to get the Harry Kay all painted up. This should also get Jeff off his butt and have his Route 29FS painted finally. If you are in need of a 26" wheeled frame for a 100mm fork, you can even pick your color
Harry Kay(back with the sliders) and what could be your new WTR, hopefully better pictures when the weather clears up

Racing and Dubwatch
The local short track series is happening and Darrell went down to try it out yesterday. He has been running a 32 x 20 so we swapped out for an 18 on the rear for the faster course. When I talked to Darrell this morning he said that when he got to the race he decided to put his Small Block 8's (since the short track is solid packed) instead of the Panaracer Rampages he runs for winter time muck. Anyways, Darrell said that the gearing still wasn't enough and he was spinning to fast to keep up and finished 3rd from last. We will get a better gear on there for him to try again and I hope to go as well to support or maybe even try it out myself and get my butt kicked.
I did find a picture that Arleigh took of Darrell rockin the FFB jersey and of course the Pimp Goat
In other news, I was upstairs retrieving items to ship for our vintage customers and when i came down Jeff told me that some rockin' Dubwatch action was out front of the store and that he had snapped a picture for me but his camera had also died after taking two so I ran out to snap a few of my own and after taking two my camera died as well...ok I am sure you dont care about any of that so here is some Dayton Dub Action just for you all

ITUSI trail work day
Today was a scheduled work day on the new phase IV. Jeff and Darrell said that the crowd was really good so thanks to everyone that came out. I got the duty of runing the shop....woohoo.
Darrell did take a few pictures so I wanted to post them up. They are mainly at a location where we will go over a fallen live tree. This is one of the new things that phase IV's MOA allows us to do. Jeff said that over 4 bucket loads of rocks went into it along with the dirt. Having the machine really allows us to do projects like this a good bit easier or else we would have to hand work and move all the rocks into place, like we did in old sections. We will have another trail day in mid February and I will post the date as soon as we have it nailed down.

Riding the greenway again
Since Pony and I were off today, Savannah got off work at 11:30 AND the weather was in the high 50's I loaded the gang up for the greenway to do some lappage.
I really enjoy the greenway as a casual ride with Pony and Savannah and the weather couldn't have been better. Not really much else to say about it but I did take quite few pictures.
Savannah made sure to stretch before riding
Savannah in a jersey that is too big for me and Pony
Cool tree
Pony on out there
Me and Sav

Cool barn view
I rode my Route 29SS
Savannah only has one bike so she rode it.
The Route 29SS has some new gearing front and rear
and a pretty new crank
I did get to try out my brand new shoes as well. These are the new Bontrager Race Lite shoes and the first impression around the greenway was very good

Lots going on at the shop...including the popular Dubwatch
Lots going on at the shop today.
The day started off with me stopping by the Powdercoater's and picking up the last set of Goat Horns to send to Roland on the other side of the pond. I love going to the Powdercoater's so I can see their doggie "Gracie"
Besides selling some bikes, we received a parts order with Darrells new Vicious fork and Pink Rocket for his newest Mountain Goat aka "hairy K". Jeremy sent us an email letting us know that "Harry K" and another frame went out today as well so we should be see a Pearl Pink Goat and one stock Goat as well very soon. We also received a box full of special grips made for us by Grab-ON, for the story on them check out the MOMBAT BLOG
Sean was at the shop all day working on the phone system for us which was supposed to be an easy job but we found out that it wasn't as easy as we thought. If you tried calling the shop today (and maybe Friday) and it rings and rings or is busy please be patient, it means we are testing it and the line will be back in a minute.
Here Sean is hoping that it works and most likely knocking out our internet...thanks Sean
During the day Sean was talking to his wonderful wife Deanna and he hollered back to "come take a look". When I got to the front I saw the newest episode of Dubwatch. The funny part about todays episode is that Darrell came by the shop yesterday to get his bike and go for a ride and was talking about a GMC Denali truck with Dubs and whitewalls...well it just happens that the exact automobile was in front of the shop today. It turns out that the Dubs are chrome with white wall tires and a gold stripe as well on the tire (quite possibly the ugliest thing ever IMO)
Lets not hold you in further anticipation:
We had thought the white was a painted part of the rim but further inspection shows the wheel weight in between the white and the chrome as shown here"
The weather today was beautiful so of course we had to have our Thursday night ride.

Dubwatch
This is the first official FFB episode of dubwatch and today we have one that Jim really likes.
This was spotted at the corner of Front and Center St on Saturday the 17th of January. For anyone who does not understand dubwatch...it is just something that Sean and I discovered one day when we were hanging out at the front of the shop watching cars go by and within 20 minutes we saw 7 cars go by with big ole dubs. So now we all enjoy making sure we point out dub cars when we see then if they are worthy. You may get to see more Dubwatch if I can be quick enough with the camera.

We got a visit today
Got a call from Taylor this morning and hesaid he would be swinging by the shop today but what he didnt tell me was that he was meeting a visitor at the shop. When Taylor got to the shop we talked about a couple of old bike things and then the front doorbell dinged so as I looked to see who it was I saw this out on the street
and the would be customer was none other than Jeremiah Bishop. If you do not know who Jeremiah is, then, well, he is the current 2008 Marathon Mountain Bike and Short Track National Champion riding for the just now defunct Trek/VW team.
Jeremiah said that he had seen the MOMBAT article on CyclingNews and then talking with Tyler decided that he had to come and see it in person.
I got to talk to him and show him around the shop for a good while and talk about some history stuff but due to time constraints he could not stay terribly long but said that he definitely wanted to come back and see more and next time he would have a better camera than just his iPhone.
Everytime I was going to take a picture of him we would start talking about a certain bike or part and I would forget but I did get these two
Jeremiah at the top of the stairs
Jeremiah and Taylor talking upstairs
As for the Tuesday night ride, we will just have to see how wet the snow we are now getting is

Snow?
So I had thought it was supposed to snow Sunday but it never did and sitting in the house was killing me so I took the Pony Dog out and hopped on the SyCip for some riding down the road and happened off onto some old side field with tractor road all the way around it and down into the woods. Pretty cool little off road way of getting the dog some exercise and I would really like to bring home the monstercross bike and take it out there and explore further. Anyways, the weather looks like it will be really nice for some riding this week so lets keep those fingers crossed and heating bills down!
In other news I have finally ordered a Tomi Cog so I will be "fixing" the SyCip pretty soon, we will see just how much trail usage it gets vs greenway. When I get it down to LANO I will make sure we get it on film with all the carnage.

its cold but we still rode
Sean, Darrell and I braved the cold tonight and headed out to Signal Hill for some good ole MTB action. Signal Hill is a great trail to ride in either direction and since we have not rode it reversed since we have made all the changes we decided that tonight needed to be the night to try it all out. The new stuff is just as nice reversed as it is the regular way except maybe just a bit easier except a few turns that come at you extremely quick and tight. In the videos below the crunching is not from leaves on the ground but the frozen ground cracking
(oh yeah, google reader seems to not show the videos so you have to click the link to the actual blog if you use reader...maybe others, I dont know

Tuesday night ride pics
Not a ton of them, the ole camera doesnt like focusing with so little light outside. The trail is in really nice shape for all the work we have been doing, I was expecting the hand worked sections to be really gummy due to rain and temperatures but was happy to see it was not the case. Still a few spots we want to hit and will get to those soon enough!
Can you see Jim through the trees?
They're coming!

A little different ride
Jeff had told me yesterday that he was going to be at LANO today at 1:30 but last night my head decided that it needed to stop itself up a good bit. I called Jeff to let him know that I would not be able to come ride but after talking to him I still wanted to ride but knew that if I went to LANO I would regret it. Talking to Savannah I asked if she would want to do a greenway ride with Pony and she thought it was a good idea. We usually ride the greenway out at the soccer complex but today we parked at the Museum and headed out toward the water station to do a couple of laps of the one mile loop.
I keep the SyCip at home so it saw duty today
one of the sites on the ride
Savannah liked this section better than the soccer complex
Finishing up with Pony(and obeying leash rules)
Pony had a great time as well
not quite as thrilling as hitting the trails but any day on a bike is a good day in my mind!
